Kevin, or KT as he was known to millions of
fans, was one of 4 singers who made up
the award winning mega-group of the
1990s, “Color Me Badd”.
The group sold millions of albums, reached
number one on the charts, and in addition
to being Grammy nominated, the group won
American Music and Soul Train Awards.
Attendance records were set all over the
United States and the world and television
appearances included “The Tonight Show-
with Jay Leno”, “Saturday Night Live” and
“Beverly Hills 90210”
But this introduction of Kevin is not about
the re-launching of a musical career. It is
about the incredible calling of God, and the
anointing that Christ and the Holy Spirit
have placed on Kevin’s life. For, on June 1,
1997, Kevin Thornton committed his life fully
to Christ.
However, on October 31, 1998, Kevin was
faced with a choice. A contract, potentially
worth millions of dollars, was placed in front
of Kevin Thornton and Color Me Badd. This
contract would have linked the group with
none other than Johnny Wright. Johnny
Wright was the creator/manager of the
groups “Backstreet Boys” and “*NSYNC”.
But the Holy Spirit had been working in
Kevin’s life. Despite the chance to gain even
more fame, acclaim and finances, and after
profound praying and searching, Kevin
listened to the Lord’s command “To Follow
Me” and left the secular music industry and
all the worldly ways that it involved.
Kevin chose the narrow path over the wider
road- God over the World!
The journey Kevin is on has been tough and
filled with challenges and obstacles. People
were stunned by Kevin’s decision. Many
thought him to be foolish to walk away from
millions of dollars that the music industry
was offering him. But by being faithful to
God’s calling, the Lord used those times of
trials to prepare Kevin for ministry.
Today the Lord has called Kevin back to
music and ministry! A ministry that combines
the musical gifts and talents the Lord has
blessed Kevin with- along with the gifts of
evangelism and teaching the Word!
